This year for Valentine's Day, we did something really different and exciting. I was spoiled rotten by my students this years with flowers and candy, so I begged Ryan to refrain from the normal cliches. Lucky for me and my allergies, he happily obliged. Instead he asked the kids what they thought I would want, and like the smart little kids they are, they picked wine and cinnamon rolls. I'm telling you, we are raising these kids to be amazing gift givers. The only one of my favorite things missing was pizza, which Ryan took care of for lunch.
But the part that made this Valentine's Day extraordinary, my wonderful husband took me somewhere he absolutely HATES going. We go about once a year during the summer. He always has a frown on his face and complains the whole time. That's right. You guessed it. He took me to the teacher supply store.
Past trips to this store have including moaning and groaning from him about how everything they have is too babyish and that it's all not age appropriate for his middle school classroom. But here's the kicker. We didn't go there for him this time. We went there for me! I am lucky enough to have gotten a job teaching Pre-K in February. I know. That's crazy.
Of course, the thing I was most excited about was decorating my room. This has been something that I had been planning for years as I finished m y teaching degree. And the best part would be that Ryan couldn't veto anything because it was too cutesy or girly. He was excited for me and was pleasant the entire time. He even insisted that I get extra decorations for my reading corner because it HAD to have a raccoon in it. BEST. VALENTINE'S DAY. EVER.
